What does the database of “bad guys” consist of?
The database consists of data culled from more than 100 sources
of public records from the National, Regional, State and Local levels. In
addition, there is a great deal of data available from government and law
enforcement sources. This data includes identifying information on “bad guys”
from Be-On-the-Look-Out lists, Law Enforcement Wants & Warrants, Military
Base Debarments & Driving Suspensions as well as a large list of military
IDs reported as lost, stolen, terminated. The system can easily integrate
additional data sources based on the needs of the customer.
Use of, and updates to, some restricted data may require coordination with and
approval from the data source authority, and we can assist in that
coordination.
Is the data in the system sensitive and how is it secured?
The data is designed and used only for official purposes to ensure the
Defense ID®
system is used appropriately. Within the system, the data in the database is
protected with triple-DES encryption, all transmissions are encrypted and the
application and files used by it are password protected in accordance with DoD
and industry standards.
How often is the data updated?
The “Persons-of-Interest” database on the Control Center incorporates
a number of data sources, each of which is refreshed at a routine, periodic
rate. The Sentry and Agent Handhelds are refreshed with this data during
synchronization with the Control Center, typically once per shift, or more
often depending on the procedures of the users.
Data culled from Public Records are typically updated daily, and data from
restricted sources are refreshed at periodic rates as provided by the official
source. Locally provided data can be updated as often as the installation
believes is necessary and reasonable.
Use of (and updates to) some restricted data may require coordination with and
approval from the data source authority.
Are there limits on the size of the data that can be entered into the system?
We have optimized the databases residing on the device by using data
compression and streamlining the data necessary for operational use. The amount
of data that can be stored in the system is virtually limitless. We have
millions of records in the system now, and we are nowhere near the data storage
limit size for the media and hardware, and that capacity continues to grow as
standard hardware components improve.
How far can the handheld synchronizing cradle be from the Control Center?
Miles away, if necessary. Distance is limited only by availability of a network
access drop at the synchronizing cradle’s location. The standard
installation synchronizes via the internet to an established remote secure
Control Center.
What is the battery life on the handheld between charges?
Average battery life with continuous usage is about 8 hours. The standard
system includes two batteries per device, with an available rapid charging
station with about a 1 ½ hour recharge rate.
How rugged is the Sentry Handheld?
The IM2500 Sentry Handheld is a ruggedized device designed to withstand multiple
6’ drops to concrete. Your security officer can drop (or even throw) the IM2500
to handle an emergency situation appropriately.
The IM2500 Sentry Handheld is weather resistant to protect it from harsh
environments, from extreme cold and heat, and can withstand temporary
submersion in up to a meter of water.
If something does break how do I get it fixed?
Call us toll-free at 1-866-SCAN4ID (1-866-722-6443). Our extended warranty
provides for a standard 1:1 replacement of a device in the event that something
breaks. This minimizes your down time and maintains full operational use of the
systems to secure your facility.
How do we get statistics and reports from the system?
Can we use our own computer to run reports?
With the m4000 Management Center Software you have web-based access to the
Control Center, where security personnel can access reports and management
functions based upon their assigned access privileges.
Can we customize the reports?
There are standardized reports accessible to the system that will be customized
for your installation based upon location, gate names, user names and dates.
Additional customization is available as well.
How much does the system cost?
Much less than any other system out there, even ones with much less capability.
The system is about a third the cost of other systems we have seen on the
market. Generally a small military base averages around $100K for a complete
system, and a large installation perhaps $225K. There are many options with
implementation that could reduce the costs even further.
We would be happy to discuss your installation’s specific requirements and help
you with planning your solution.
